Transforming a Spare Bedroom into a Second Master: The Carver Project

At Victoria Renovations, we pride ourselves on turning our clients’ dreams into reality, and our recent project in Cumming, GA, exemplifies this commitment to excellence.  The Carvers entrusted us with their vision for an addition to their home, and we are thrilled to share the stunning results of this transformative project.

Pouring of Concrete and Footings

One of the critical phases of the Carver project was the pouring of concrete and footings. This foundational work was essential to ensure the structural integrity of the new addition. We began by digging for and installing concrete footings, meticulously measured and placed to support the new structures. The concrete was poured with precision, creating a robust base that would anchor the new addition to the existing home seamlessly. We took extra care to protect the surrounding landscape by installing ground protection during the concrete work, ensuring minimal disruption to the Carvers’ property.

Framing, Dry-In, Roof and Siding

Following the successful pouring of the concrete, our team moved on to the framing phase. We constructed the new walls using high-quality lumber, ensuring each stud was placed with exacting accuracy. The new addition included framing for both interior and exterior walls, which would later be covered with drywall and siding. A key aspect of the framing process was the installation of structural beams to support the roof and upper floors. These beams were carefully placed to provide maximum support and stability.

Once the framing was complete, we proceeded to dry-in the new addition. This involved installing the roof and siding to protect the interior from the elements. We used durable roofing materials and installed house wrap to provide an additional layer of moisture protection. The siding chosen for this project was Hardie board with a 6″ – 8″ exposure, which was carefully aligned and installed to create a weather-tight seal.

Weaving in the Existing Brick with the New Brick

One of the unique challenges of this project was seamlessly blending the new addition with the existing structure. The original house featured a beautiful brick veneer, and it was essential to match this with the new construction. Sourcing a perfect match to the brick posed a challenge and we scoured multiple brick venues before finding one that closely matched the existing veneer.  To ensure consistency we carefully wove the new brick into the old brick saved during the demolition phase. This involved precise cutting and placement to ensure a uniform appearance, maintaining the home’s aesthetic integrity. The result was a seamless transition between the old and new sections of the house, enhancing its overall curb appeal.

Master Bedroom: A Retreat of Elegance

In the end, the spare room underwent a remarkable transformation into a master bedroom, creating a serene and luxurious retreat for the Carvers. The walls, painted in Sherwin-Williams’ Agreeable Gray, exude a calming and sophisticated ambiance, perfectly complementing the plush, thick carpet underfoot. The addition of a flush-mounted ceiling mini-split system ensures optimal comfort, maintaining the perfect temperature year-round without compromising the room’s sleek aesthetics.

The elegant touches don’t stop there. The master bedroom features a beautifully upholstered bed that serves as the room’s centerpiece, inviting relaxation and restful nights. Natural light pours in through the large windows and the double French doors, which open to the verdant backyard, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors.

Master Bathroom: A Spa-Like Haven

The master bathroom is a testament to luxury and functionality. The standout feature is the stunning Soprano Quartz countertop with Cove DuPont edges, offering both durability and a touch of opulence. The cabinetry, featuring Shaker Coffee prefabricated cabinets, adds a rich, warm tone to the space, perfectly contrasting the lighter hues of the walls and floor. The attention to detail extends to the Ainsley Park bathroom wall and floor tiles, which are impeccably finished with light almond grout, enhancing the room’s overall harmony.

Main Floor Bathroom: A Blend of Style and Comfort

The Carvers’ main floor bathroom was designed with both style and practicality in mind. The shower is adorned with Albatross Field Deep Sea wall tiles paired with Deep Ocean grout, evoking the tranquility of the seas. The shower floor features Piccadilly Blue mosaic tiles, also grouted in Deep Ocean, providing a cohesive and visually striking look. The existing cabinetry and vanity fixtures were protected and carried over into the new space intact.

Outdoor Living: A Perfect Extension

The remodel also included significant enhancements to the outdoor living space. The newly poured concrete patio, coupled with the installation of modern sconce lighting, creates an ideal area for relaxation and entertainment. The seamless integration of the indoor and outdoor spaces allows the Carvers to enjoy their beautiful backyard comfortably.
